Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Electricity Theft in Collaborative Effort

Lahore: In a major move to curb electricity theft, Additional IG Operations Punjab, Shehzada Sultan, chaired a video link meeting at the Central Police Office with law enforcement and utility representatives from across the region. The meeting focused on strengthening the ongoing operations against those illegally tapping electrical utilities, a significant issue affecting the national resources.

According to Punjab Police announcement issued on 03 August 2024, the discussion included representatives from Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and police officers from multiple districts including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Nankana, and Kasur. The participants agreed to enhance their collaborative efforts to make the crackdown on electricity thieves more effective and bring major defaulters to justice.

Additional IG Sultan emphasized the need for joint and stringent actions against individuals damaging national resources and directed that legal apprehension of proclaimed offenders involved in electricity theft should be prioritized. He also tasked district police teams to improve the rate of challan submissions for such cases within a week and to coordinate closely with LESCO officers to ensure effective data sharing and record rectification.

The meeting also touched upon various strategies and initiatives, discussing the intensification of the crackdown with insights from both LESCO and FIA officers. Sultan concluded by stating that those harming the national treasury through such illicit activities do not deserve leniency, and a follow-up report on the crackdown’s progress is expected at the next meeting.
