Lahore, The Punjab Police, under the leadership of Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, is making significant strides in the mission to rid the province of drug-related activities. In alignment with the Chief Minister of Punjab’s vision for a Drug-Free Punjab, a rigorous crackdown on drug dealers is underway across the region, including in Lahore, to safeguard the younger population from the menace of drug addiction.
According to Punjab Police, a notable 527 raids were executed on drug dens throughout Punjab in a single day, resulting in the arrest of 261 suspects involved in the narcotics trade. These operations led to the seizure of substantial quantities of illegal substances, including 140 kg of charas (cannabis), 1.5 kg of ICE (crystal methamphetamine), 22 kg of opium, and nearly 3974 liters of illicit liquor.
The spokesman for Punjab Police disclosed that over the past four weeks, the force has conducted 6691 raids, registering 3421 cases against individuals implicated in drug trafficking. These concerted efforts have led to the arrest of 3804 suspects and the recovery of 2807 kg of charas, 14 kg of ICE, 55 kg of heroin, 149 kg of opium, and 38,205 liters of alcohol from their possession.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has ordered an escalation in targeted operations to prevent drug addiction among the youth. He emphasized the importance of intelligence-based operations near educational institutions and hostels, urging that those involved in the manufacture and distribution of modern, addictive, flavored drugs be apprehended and prosecuted.
The Punjab Police’s proactive measures reflect a strong commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and usage in the province, aiming to achieve the goal of a Drug-Free Punjab in the near future.
