Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Dangerous Kite Flying Practices

Lahore: The Punjab Police has escalated its enforcement actions against the hazardous use of metallic kite strings and unregulated kite flying, resulting in thousands of arrests across the province.

According to Punjab Police, the ongoing operation has led to the arrest of 11,689 individuals for breaching the Kite Flying Act, with over 11,113 cases registered in various districts. In Lahore alone, police have detained 2,546 suspects and confiscated around 50,000 kites and 2,230 spinning wheels used in kite flying.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has directed officers to intensify the crackdown, emphasizing adherence to the newly established laws without exception. The police effort focuses on dismantling the network involved in the production, sale, and distribution of kites and metallic strings, which pose significant risks to public safety.

Dr. Anwar also highlighted the importance of targeting online marketplaces that facilitate the trade of these banned items, marking a comprehensive approach to eliminate the perilous pastime from the region.
