Lahore, In a groundbreaking move, the Punjab Police, under the leadership of Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, has inaugurated the Tahaffuz Darsgah, a pioneering educational and vocational training center for transgender children in the Jalo area of Lahore. This initiative marks a significant step towards inclusive education in South Asia, providing a safe and supportive environment for one of the most marginalized communities in society.
According to Punjab Police, the Tahaffuz Darsgah project, developed in collaboration with the British organization UK Curriculum and Accreditation Body, aims to address the educational needs of transgender children, offering them not only quality education but also vocational training to help integrate them into society. During his visit, IG Punjab Dr. Anwar highlighted the center’s role in offering accommodation to those rejected by their families due to their gender identity, emphasizing the Darsgah’s commitment to providing a secure and nurturing environment for its inhabitants.
ASP Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi briefed IG Punjab on the project’s objectives and the anticipated impact on the transgender community. She revealed that the first phase of the Tahaffuz Darsgah education project is nearing completion and will soon become operational, marking a milestone in the efforts to uplift and empower transgender children in the region.
