Lahore, During the fourth T20 cricket match between Pakistan and New Zealand held at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday night, Punjab Police deployed robust security and traffic management measures to ensure the event proceeded without incident.
According to Punjab Police, under the direction of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, an extensive security strategy was enacted that involved close collaboration with the Pakistan Cricket Board, district administration, and other security agencies. Dr. Anwar highlighted that 6,000 officers and personnel, including lady officers for the security and checking of female fans, were assigned to manage security during the matches in Lahore.
The security plan included ongoing search, sweep, combing, and intelligence-based operations around the players’ residences, routes, and the stadium itself. Surveillance was enhanced through the use of Safe Cities Authority cameras monitoring the stadium, hotel, and team routes.
In addition to security measures, a comprehensive traffic advisory was issued to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and adequate parking during the match days. Units such as the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, and Elite Force teams were tasked with ensuring effective patrolling around the venue.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar praised the professionalism of the staff at the stadium entrances and exits, noting their courteous behavior towards citizens. He also appealed to cricket fans to follow the instructions of the Punjab Police to enjoy the matches in a secure environment, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere that allowed fans to fully engage with the excitement of the cricket match.
