Lahore: The Punjab Police maintained a heightened state of alertness and implemented stringent security measures for Christian prayer services held in churches throughout the province, including in Lahore.
In efforts to ensure the safety of congregants, Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to bolster security arrangements for churches. Dr. Anwar emphasized that supervisory officers should personally inspect the security measures at churches and other significant locations.
Additional police personnel and snipers were deployed at sensitive sites to enhance security. Police units, including the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Teams, were tasked with conducting patrols around church premises to prevent any potential disturbances.
The police chief instructed officers and personnel to remain vigilant and maintain a watchful eye on any individuals who might pose a threat. Search and sweep operations were conducted around churches, areas with significant Christian populations, and other sensitive locations.
Dr. Anwar also stressed the importance of fostering interfaith harmony, urging religious scholars, members of the Christian community, and peace committees to play an active role in promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
