Punjab Police Escalates Anti-Drug Operations Statewide

Lahore, Following the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab Police has intensified its operations against drug trafficking across the province, resulting in significant seizures and arrests.

According to Punjab Police, the recent campaign, spurred by the Chief Minister’s instructions, saw the police conduct 2,437 raids since February 26, leading to 1,102 cases being filed and 1,484 suspects apprehended. The seized substances include 1,126 kilograms of charas, 5 kilograms of ice, 34 kilograms of heroin, 33 kilograms of opium, and 12,953 liters of alcohol. In just the past 24 hours, 383 raids netted 253 arrests and resulted in the confiscation of substantial quantities of various drugs, particularly targeting hubs around educational institutions to safeguard the youth.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the strategic focus on intelligence-based operations under the Punjab Government’s Youth Engagement Program. He affirmed the commitment to rigorously pursuing and dismantling drug networks, especially those impacting the younger population. Dr. Anwar has directed regional and district police chiefs to closely oversee the ongoing efforts to cleanse the state of drug-related activities, aligning with the Chief Minister’s vision for a drug-free Punjab.
