Lahore, In response to directives from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Police have significantly intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking across the province. A recent surge in operations led to extensive raids, resulting in numerous arrests and the seizure of substantial quantities of illegal substances.
According to Punjab Police, on a single day, law enforcement agencies carried out 313 raids on suspected drug dens throughout Lahore and other regions of Punjab. These efforts culminated in the arrest of 160 individuals, the registration of 156 cases, and the confiscation of 70 kilograms of charas and 1,960 liters of alcohol.
Over the past three months, Punjab Police have conducted over 28,000 raids, leading to 13,252 cases and 13,862 arrests. Officers have seized more than 8,300 kg of charas, 40 kg of Ice, 145 kg of heroin, 267 kg of opium, and approximately 1,646,416 liters of alcohol during these operations.
Inspector General of Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has called for an acceleration of these anti-drug initiatives, stressing the importance of collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and other government agencies. He emphasized that all drug traffickers, including smugglers, dealers, and suppliers, must be rigorously pursued and prosecuted under the law.
This aggressive approach underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the province, aiming to curb the illicit trade that threatens the social fabric of the community.
