Punjab Police Enhances Security at Provincial Border Checkpoints, Focuses on Anti-Terrorism Measures

Lahore: In a recent video link meeting, the Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, reviewed the progress of the initiative to strengthen the province’s border and riverine checkpoints, which are crucial in combating terrorism, smuggling, and illegal activities. This meeting, which involved key police officials and personnel, underscored the ongoing efforts to bolster security measures at these critical points.

According to Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the importance of these checkpoints as the first line of defense against potential threats. He specifically pointed out the necessity to halt the transportation of weapons and terrorism-related materials through key transit points such as Tunssa Ghazi Ghat and Mithan Wala Bridge. The Inspector General instructed that effective countermeasures should be implemented promptly, based on accurate ground intelligence and timely reports.

Furthermore, Dr. Anwar highlighted significant enhancements at the riverine checkpoints, including the addition of modern resources and infrastructure developments. The personnel stationed at these locations have been equipped with bulletproof vests, helmets, and modern vehicles to improve their operational capabilities.

The meeting also addressed the need for regular inspections and improvements at these checkpoints. Dr. Anwar directed all District Police Officers (DPOs) to frequently review the facilities and resources available to the personnel, ensuring they meet the required standards for effective border security.

The DPO of Rajanpur, Captain (Retd) Dost Muhammad, provided a detailed briefing on the current deployment, resources, and challenges faced at the checkpoints. High-ranking officials, including DIG Operations Punjab Waqas Nazir and DIG Establishment I Suleman Sultan Rana, also participated in the meeting, reflecting the high level of attention and coordination among Punjab Police’s top brass concerning border security.

This meeting is part of a series of regular interactions aimed at ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of Punjab Police in safeguarding the province’s borders against illegal and threatening activities.
