Lahore: In a rigorous enforcement of the Anti-Kite Flying Act, Punjab Police, under the directive of Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar, have intensified their crackdown on kite flying and the use of dangerous metal strings across the province. This action is part of a broader effort to prevent injuries and fatalities associated with these activities.
According to Punjab Police, the campaign has already resulted in significant seizures and arrests. This year, 11,863 individuals have been apprehended, 11,248 cases have been registered, and 10,686 challans have been issued. Police have confiscated 82,694 metal string wheels and over 464,000 kites. In Lahore alone, efforts have led to the arrest of 2,694 suspects, with 2,627 cases registered and the recovery of 2,301 metal string spools and over 50,000 kites.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has issued specific instructions to Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to amplify the effectiveness of these operations, asserting a zero-tolerance policy towards individuals who engage in activities that endanger public safety. He also highlighted the need for a concerted effort to tackle the online sale of metal strings and kites, urging law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice. Additionally, Dr. Anwar called on parents, educators, and community leaders to support the police in curbing this hazardous practice.
