Punjab Police Constable Martyred in Independence Day Encounter

Khushab: On Pakistan’s 77th Independence Day, Punjab Police Constable Zia Akhtar was martyred during a police operation against proclaimed offenders in the Jabbi Quaidabad area of district Khushab, underscoring the risks law enforcement officers face in maintaining public safety.

According to Punjab Police, the encounter occurred when a police team, attempting to arrest a wanted criminal in Dohakri village, was met with gunfire. Constable Akhtar sustained a fatal chest wound, while SHO Rana Faizan and Constable Jamshed were injured. The assailant, identified as Saif alias Saifu, and his accomplices were killed in retaliatory fire. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar paid tribute to Akhtar’s bravery and sacrifice, asserting that the welfare of his family will be a priority. He also ordered a full report on the incident from the RPO Sargodha and emphasized the provision of top medical facilities for the injured officers.

Constable Akhtar’s funeral was held at the District Police Lines in Joharabad, with full honors, before his burial in his native area.
