Punjab Police Chief Orders Heightened Security Measures Amid National Concerns

Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has issued new directives to enhance security protocols at border checkpoints, religious sites, sensitive installations, and for foreign nationals, particularly Chinese residents, in response to the prevailing national security concerns. This directive aims to bolster the regional stability and safety of vulnerable targets.

According to Punjab Police announcement issued on 13 September 2024, Dr. Anwar presided over a high-level meeting at the Central Police Office, which reviewed security strategies, crime control, and policing efficiency across the province. The meeting, attended via video link by regional police chiefs and other senior officers, covered a range of urgent security and administrative matters, including the forthcoming 12 Rabi-ul-Awal celebrations.

The IG emphasized the necessity of deploying bulletproof jackets and helmets during operations and insisted on strict adherence to safety protocols to protect officers in the field. Dr. Anwar also called for enhancements to the emergency response services provided through the helpline 15 and the Dolphin Squad, aimed at improving public confidence in law enforcement’s ability to manage emergencies and crime.

Moreover, Dr. Anwar directed the reorganization of motorcycle squads across all districts to more effectively tackle street crime and stressed the importance of clearing encroachments and optimizing traffic management to facilitate smoother civic operations. He also underscored the need for increased patrolling around highways and critical infrastructures, urging superior coordination with local authorities and scholars to address and mitigate criminal activities.
