Punjab Police Celebrates Promotion of 28 Officers to DSP Rank

Lahore: In a significant career milestone, 28 officers of the Punjab Police were elevated from Inspector to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) ranks in a formal ceremony held at the Central Police Office. Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, officiated the event, pinning the new ranks on the officers amidst the presence of their families and a host of senior officials.

According to Punjab Police announcement issued on 15 September 2024, the ceremony was not only a celebration of individual achievements but also part of a broader initiative within the force, as Dr. Usman Anwar announced that over 1,500 departmental promotions are set to occur this year across various cadres. Additionally, a promotion board is expected to convene soon to consider elevating over 80 Sub-Inspectors to Inspectors. The IG emphasized the critical supervisory roles of the DSPs in enhancing sub-divisional policing and addressed the challenges of law and order, terrorism, and religious hatred that the officers must manage effectively.

Dr. Anwar encouraged the newly promoted DSPs to adopt a firm stance against any miscreants, especially at border checkpoints and in remote areas known as Kacha. He highlighted the importance of selfless service to the public, fearless protection of citizens, and the utilization of modern technology and information in policing. The IG also stressed on maintaining transparent and fair practices within the force, noting that the culture of recommendations for recruitment, promotions, and postings has been eradicated, enhancing the transparency and credibility of the Punjab Police’s service structure.
