Lahore: In a significant move to secure the provincial borders, the Punjab Police is swiftly advancing its mission to strengthen border checkposts following a directive from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. This initiative, aimed at bolstering the first line of defense against terrorism and smuggling, involves regular strategic meetings and significant upgrades to manpower and equipment at key posts.
According to Punjab Police, a recent meeting at the Central Police Office was chaired by Inspector General Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, with participation from District Police Officers (DPO) Dera Ghazi Khan Syed Ali and DPO Rajanpur Captain (Retd.) Dost Muhammad via video link. The meeting focused on the operational status and needs of various checkposts including Sakhi Sarwar, Triman, Adhiwala, Bait Bagh Shah, and Shah Wali.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the critical role of these checkposts in preventing terrorist activities and curbing smuggling. He highlighted the enhancements at key posts where the number of personnel has been doubled and the officers have been equipped with bulletproof jackets, helmets, modern vehicles, and logistic support. Dr. Anwar also directed the DPOs to regularly inspect these facilities to ensure their effectiveness and improve the living conditions for the personnel stationed there.
The meeting further discussed the need to upgrade riverine checkposts and stressed the officers’ commitment to their duties, which has significantly contributed to thwarting terrorist plans and preventing smuggling of non-custom goods. The ongoing vigilance of these officers continues to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property across the province.
