Islamabad, In a determined move against serious crime, Punjab Police recently arrested two significant proclaimed offenders, Ahsan Ishaq and Amir Shahzad, from an airport just moments before they were set to depart the country.
According to a news release by Punjab Police, these arrests were part of a larger effort, spearheaded by the Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, to apprehend dangerous proclaimed offenders both domestically and abroad. The effective collaboration between the Punjab Police and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) played a crucial role in these timely apprehensions.
Ahsan Ishaq, one of the detainees, was implicated in a murder that took place within the jurisdiction of the Cantt Police Station in Gujranwala on September 29. Similarly, Amir Shahzad was wanted for a fatal assault on a citizen in the Alipur Chatta area of Gujranwala, which occurred on May 16, 2023.
Both offenders were listed on the Provisional Identification List, with the police remaining vigilant for their arrest. Their arrest at the airport thwarted their attempted escape abroad, and the accused are now in the custody of the district police.
In the aftermath of the arrests, IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, commended the Special Operation Cell Gujranwala for their efficiency in apprehending such high-risk criminals. He further stressed the urgency of finalizing legal proceedings against these offenders swiftly. Moreover, Dr. Anwar has instructed the police force to intensify their crackdown against proclaimed offenders involved in grave crimes such as murder, robbery, and kidnapping. He emphasized the importance of consistent information exchange with agencies like FIA and Interpol to ensure more of these offenders are caught.
