Punjab Police Arrests Over 56,000 in Crackdown on Electricity Theft

Lahore: Punjab Police has escalated its enforcement actions against electricity theft, arresting 56,322 individuals involved in siphoning off power and thus harming national resources and the treasury. This province-wide operation has led to the registration of 96,722 cases, with a significant number of convictions already secured.

According to Punjab Police, the crackdown has been particularly intense in Lahore, where 30,891 suspects have been detained and 30,495 cases filed. The authorities have completed legal formalities for 8,420 cases in the city alone. Overall, the police have successfully secured convictions for over 8,000 offenders involved in electricity theft across Punjab.

IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has directed the police force to persist with the operations without discrimination and uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards individuals compromising the financial stability of the nation. He emphasized the importance of supporting electricity companies during these operations to effectively combat the widespread issue of power theft.
