Punjab Police and UK Body Collaborate to Establish School for Transgender Children

Lahore, The Punjab Police, led by Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, has partnered with the British organization UK Curriculum and Accreditation Body to establish a dedicated school for the education and training of transgender children aged 5 to 18 years. This initiative aims to provide quality education and technical skills to transgender children, enhancing their life opportunities.

According to Punjab Police, the agreement was formalized through an MOU signed by IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and Zahid Bhatti, Founder/Trustee of the UK Curriculum and Accreditation Body. The organization has committed to financing the establishment of the school and will be responsible for creating the curriculum, teacher training programs, and daily activity SOPs.

Dr. Usman Anwar highlighted the importance of providing exclusive educational facilities to transgender children, a marginalized community in need of such support. The Punjab Police will contribute by providing land for the primary and secondary schools, facilitated through the tahaffuz markaz and with the cooperation of the Punjab Government.

Zahid Bhatti expressed his organization’s commitment to the project, emphasizing the creation of a safe and conducive learning environment for transgender children. The Punjab Police will ensure the security of the school premises.

The meeting, which also included DIG Welfare Ghazi Muhammad Salah ud din, AIG Operations Dr. Asad Ijaz Malhi, CTO Lahore Amara Athar, and SDPO Gulberg ASP Syeda Shaherbano, discussed various welfare measures for the transgender community and further initiatives for mutual cooperation.

This collaborative effort marks a significant step towards inclusive education in Pakistan, particularly for transgender children who often face social and educational barriers.
