Lahore, In a significant move to enhance road safety, IG National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Sultan Ali Khawaja visited the Central Police Office in Lahore. He was welcomed by IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, and they jointly chaired an important meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Punjab Police and National Highways and Motorway Police.
According to Punjab Police, the meeting, attended by senior officials from both organizations, including Additional IG National Highways Central Region Ali Ahmad Saber Kayani and CPO/DSP, Motorway, Mansoor Javed, centered on enhancing the working relationship between the two police forces. The aim is to secure highways across the province more effectively. They agreed to implement joint measures for axle load management on all provincial highways. Both IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and IG National Highways Sultan Ali Khawaja emphasized the importance of preventing accidents caused by heavy load traffic and ensuring the effective implementation of relevant laws.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed the coordination between Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP), Motorway, and Traffic Police to be strengthened for better axle load management. A working group will be formed to interconnect the systems of Punjab Police and National Highways Police, aiming to enhance efficiency and collaboration. Dr. Anwar also noted that the work culture and successful measures of the Motorways Police are being integrated into Punjab Police practices.
DIG PHP Dr. Athar Waheed briefed about ongoing measures by PHP to prevent overloading on highways. IG National Highways Sultan Ali Khawaja added that joint measures with Punjab Police would improve enforcement of axle load management rules and traffic management of heavy load vehicles.
During the visit, IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar showcased various departments of the Central Police Office to IG (NHMP) Sultan Ali Khawaja, including the newly constructed martyred and Ghazi Walls, a newly constructed auditorium, ongoing courses, and other initiatives. The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs between IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and IG (NHMP) Sultan Ali Khawaja, symbolizing the strengthened partnership between the two policing bodies.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards ensuring safer and more regulated traffic on Punjab’s highways, aiming to reduce accidents and improve overall road safety.
