Lahore: Punjab Police reported the implementation of extensive welfare measures for its employees and their families in 2024, with expenditures surpassing 2.32 billion rupees. An average of 10 million rupees was spent daily on welfare activities, focusing on education, healthcare, and support for families of police employees.
According to Punjab Police, more than 78 crore and 10 lakh rupees were allocated for educational scholarships for the children of police personnel. Medical grants totaling 28 crore and 19 lakh rupees were provided for employees dealing with health issues. Additionally, 59 crore and 51 lakh rupees were distributed as wedding gifts to daughters of police employees. A significant initiative under IG Punjab’s leadership secured government approval for purchasing homes for 27 families of police martyrs, with 170 plots distributed to families of martyrs who died before 2017.
Injured personnel received 7 crore and 92 lakh rupees for medical treatment, while over 13 crore and 18 lakh rupees were spent on treating disabled and ill children of police employees. Scholarships exceeding 2 crore rupees were allocated for children affected by thalassemia and cerebral palsy. Furthermore, 3.6 crore rupees were reserved for constructing houses for families of martyrs, and funeral expenses amounted to 7 crore and 49 lakh rupees.
Employees retiring from service were granted 29 crore and 77 lakh rupees as farewell grants, while 22 crore and 53 lakh rupees were provided as subsistence allowances to families of employees. Emergency and legal aid to employees amounted to more than 3 crore and 39 lakh rupees.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized that the welfare fund, along with income from welfare projects, aims to ease financial burdens on employees. Agreements with hospitals and educational institutions have been established to ensure quality healthcare and higher education for police children. Dr. Anwar declared 2024 as a landmark year for police employee welfare initiatives.
