Lahore: On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Punjab Police announced substantial financial commitments aimed at improving the welfare of special children of its employees.
According to Punjab Police, Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, emphasized the department’s dedication to the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of these children, with more than 11.76 crore rupees allocated this year for their support.
The funds have been directed towards a range of medical and educational needs. Dr. Usman Anwar detailed that 157 children with thalassemia received monthly medical assistance totaling over 2 crore rupees, while 616 children affected by cerebral palsy were provided financial support amounting to 5 crore 17 lakh rupees. Additionally, cochlear implant surgeries were financed for 15 children, and 51 children with hearing impairments received treatment funding of 26 lakh 71 thousand rupees.
The initiative also includes provisions for children suffering from severe conditions, with over 83 lakh rupees allocated for their medical care. Physical disabilities were addressed with the distribution of wheelchairs to 28 children, and 17 children requiring major surgeries were supported with 48 lakh 37 thousand rupees. For cancer treatments and bone marrow transplants, 49 lakh 47 thousand rupees were disbursed. Scholarships were awarded to 20 special children, totaling 24 lakh 53 thousand rupees.
IG Punjab Dr. Anwar assured that the police department remains committed to further enhancing the welfare measures for its personnel and their families, ensuring continuous support for the special children of police employees.
