Punjab PDWP Allocates Rs 213,000 Million for Cholistan Canal Construction

Lahore: In a landmark decision aimed at enhancing irrigation infrastructure, the Punjab Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has sanctioned a massive Rs 213,000 million for the construction of the Cholistan Canal and its associated systems. The funding approval was granted during the 16th PDWP meeting of the fiscal year 2024-25, led by Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan, Chairman of the P and D Board.

According to Planning and Development Board – Punjab announcement issued on 12 August 2024, the newly approved irrigation scheme is expected to significantly bolster water management and agricultural productivity in the region. The Cholistan Canal project, a pivotal development in Punjab’s irrigation sector, aims to provide a sustainable water supply to an extensive area, promising substantial improvements in agricultural outputs and local livelihoods.

The meeting was attended by Secretary P and D Board Dr. Asif Tufail, Chief Economist Dr. Nasir Iqbal Malik, and other key members and senior representatives from relevant provincial departments, emphasizing the project’s critical role in the state’s strategic development initiatives.
