Rawalpindi: A high-level meeting convened at the Commissioner’s Office in Rawalpindi focused on the provision of clean drinking water, water filtration plants, and the Nullah Lai project. Presided over by Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin, the meeting included Member Provincial Assembly Raja Hanif Advocate, Malik Iftikhar, Umair Sadaqat, Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Nadeem Nasir, the Managing Director of WASA, and officials from the Clean Water Authority, among others.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, a detailed briefing was provided on the status of clean water initiatives across the region. The briefing highlighted Phase-I of the Chief Minister Punjab Clean Water Program, which aims to install 706 water filtration plants in the Rawalpindi Division by November 30, 2026. The distribution of these plants includes 175 in Rawalpindi district, 142 in Jhelum, 207 in Attock, 73 in Chakwal, 28 in Murree, and 75 in Talagang.

Minister Bilal Yasin emphasized the need for maintaining operational status of both new and existing filtration plants. He instructed relevant authorities to assess machinery, filters, electricity supply, and water quality, and to implement corrective measures where necessary. Stressing the importance of quality, Yasin urged the timely completion of ongoing projects and the resolution of any delays.

The minister underscored the importance of a maintenance system for the filtration plants to ensure their continuous operation. He called for comprehensive data collection on all plants, identification of non-functional units, and establishment of clear timelines for their repair. Additionally, he directed district administrations to monitor the plants effectively and resolve public complaints promptly.

Regular laboratory testing of water quality and the maintenance of test records were also mandated. Authorities were instructed to develop a maintenance schedule for timely replacement and repair of equipment to ensure uninterrupted functionality of all filtration plants.
