Lahore, September 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):Provincial Minister for Local Government and Community Development (LGCD) Punjab Mian Mahmood-ul-Rashid has said that the government would try to repair the damages in the flood-affected areas as soon as possible while it was considering the suggestions for compensation or reconstruction of the affected houses.
“The relief operation has been completed now. Focus will be on resettlement.” Presiding a meeting at the Commissioner’s Office, Dera Ghazi Khan on Saturday, he informed about the future strategy of the Punjab government in this regard. Members of the Assembly, Muhammad Hanif Patafi, and Sardar Ahmed Ali Darishak, Dr. Shaheen Najeeb Khosa, Deputy Commissioner DG Khan Mohammad Anwar Briar and others were present. MPA Sardar Ahmad Ali Dareshk announced to build 1000 houses in his constituency at a cost of Rs. 100 million.
The provincial minister, presiding over the meeting regarding relief activities in the affected areas, said that the survey in the flood affected areas would be completed soon and the damages would be remedied. He said, “Apart from cash, they are also considering the aspects of building houses with the help of domestic and foreign donors. Philanthropists are coming in large numbers.
We are focussing on resettlement after relief work”. Member Provincial Assembly Muhammad Hanif Patafi said that the survey should be completed transparently and quickly and construction of houses, settlements and maintenance of roads should be focused now. MPA Sardar Ahmad Ali Dareshk announced to build 1000 houses in his constituency with Rs. 100 million and said that the victims of his constituency would also get equal government assistance. He suggested that the number of health camps and teams should be increased.
MPA Dr. Shahina Najeeb Khosa said that public representatives should be included in the survey teams. Settlements should not be made on the torrential path. Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Anwar Briar said that 17 tents villages and more than 25 flood relief camps had been established in the flood-affected areas. Survey teams had been formed for the district, tehsil and 189 patwar circles.
He said, “The Urban Unit has developed a special app for the survey. 35,883 people and 5,448 cattle have been moved to safe places from the flood water. 105 roads of 1,055 km have been damaged by various spells of the historic flood. In the preliminary report, 457 villages and settlements have been affected. 354,329 acres of crops and 24,684 houses have been affected. 12,614 tents have been distributed among the flood victims.
39,084 ration bags, 4,240 flour bags, 1,357 platters of korma curry and Pulau, 8,065 mats, 45,194 bottles of mineral water, 4,050 mosquito nets and 4,223 blankets have been distributed in the four tehsils of the district. 2558 dewatering sets have also been provided for drainage of flood water”.
