LAHORE: Punjab has taken a significant step forward in addressing violence against women with the establishment of its first virtual women’s police station. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced this initiative in a statement marking the International Day of Ending Violence Against Women, emphasizing the government’s commitment to women’s safety and rights.

According to Chief Minister of Punjab, the virtual police station aims to provide immediate support to women facing violence. Women can now lodge complaints online and access emergency police assistance through a panic button feature. The initiative also includes a fully functional police helpline dedicated to women’s issues, reflecting the Punjab government’s focus on creating a violence-free, safe, and equal society.

Chief Minister Sharif underscored the importance of respecting women, citing religious teachings that advocate for the gentle treatment of women and the condemnation of violence. She labeled perpetrators of violence as cowards and criminals, asserting that they will face strict consequences. The virtual police station represents a foundational element of the Punjab government’s strategy to prioritize women’s protection and uphold their rights.
