Lahore, In a decisive move to address the pressing issue of air pollution, the Punjab government, under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directive, has launched a comprehensive campaign targeting industrial contributors to the environmental hazard. Senior Minister Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb led a pivotal meeting focusing on groundbreaking strategies to ensure cleaner air.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the government’s new initiatives include the digitization of the brick industry to enhance air quality. Senior Minister Aurangzeb conveyed the Chief Minister’s dedication to implementing effective measures against smog, highlighting a strategic plan that enforces the installation of emission controllers across divisional industrial zones within a three-month window.
The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to environmental health, announcing a zero-tolerance policy against entities exacerbating air pollution. Additionally, a notable collaboration with India through a one-on-one agreement reflects a regional approach to tackling environmental challenges, including innovative monitoring of crop management practices to prevent the prevalent issue of crop burning.
Under the Chief Minister’s guidance, Punjab is set to launch an app to bolster anti-smog initiatives and enforce a ban on plastic bags starting June 6. The introduction of the CM Green Office Awards aims to incentivize industrial adherence to global environmental standards. Moreover, the establishment of Environment Climate Change Councils in educational settings aims to foster a culture of sustainability among the youth, complemented by concerted efforts to improve hospital waste management.
