Punjab highway patrol teams should make field patrolling more effective in their beat areas across province: IG Punjab

Lahore, January 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Punjab Highway Patrol teams are determined to secure lives and properties of people alongwith prevention of accidents and smooth flow of traffic on highways. PHP is also serving as a First Response Force in their concerned beat areas. IG Punjab has directed that PHP teams should make field patrolling more vigorous in their respective Beat areas to protect citizens with prevention of crimes.

IGP stressed upon PHP to take steps for helping and guiding of citizens on highways. Rao Sardar Ali Khan said that Additional IGP PHP should accelerate the inspection by undertaking field visits to monitor performance of all regions and for further improvement in this regard.

Punjab Police Spokesperson while releasing the annual performance report of Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) said that PHP remained active on highways from January 1 to December 31, 2021 under the vision of “Safe Highways, Safe People” across the province.

There have been 21692 cases of violation of laws on highways and 1862 cases under the Arms Ordinance. He said that Punjab Highway Patrol registered 1849 cases in drug offenses while 5734 cases in miscellaneous crimes.

Spokesperson of Punjab Police said that PHP arrested a total of 30605 accused including 1192 proclaimed offenders, 413 court absconders, and 29000 other criminals. PHP also stamped out 8732 encroachments from highways, provided first aid to 3428 citizens, helped 148108 citizens and reunited 902 missing children with their parents.

Spokesperson of Punjab Police further added that PHP recovered 93 Kalashankoves, 148 rifles, 242 guns / carbines, 1368 pistols / revolvers from the accused in the ongoing operation against illicit weapons. Likewise, under drugs cases, 30854 litres alcohol, more than 420 kg chars, 10.973 kilo opium and 31.2 kilo heroin were seized by Punjab Highway Patrol.

Punjab Police Spokesperson told that in last two months of November and December, Punjab Highway Patrol as the first responder on 15 emergency calls, 1527 crimes and other calls were responded and PHP reached the spot of 705 accidents and provided immediate assistance to the victims.

Instructing the PHP officers, IG Punjab said that protection of life and property of people with full dedication is the mission of PHP and with this spirit, PHP officers and personnel should improve their performance. He emphasized upon officers to prevent traffic accidents and strictly enforce traffic rules.
