Punjab Highway Patrol Steps Up Vigilance, Releases August 2024 Performance Report

Lahore: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has intensified its operations across the province under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar. In a recent release, the PHP disclosed its performance metrics for August 2024, highlighting significant achievements in crime prevention, law enforcement, and public safety.

According to Punjab Police, the PHP’s vigilant actions last month included the inspection of 3.8 million individuals through the e-police post app, resulting in the arrest of 601 criminals wanted for various offenses. Vehicle checks were equally robust, with 1.5 million inspections uncovering 269 stolen vehicles and motorcycles. The PHP’s road safety campaign led to 235,000 traffic citations, and over 45,000 overloaded vehicles were penalized for breaching axle load regulations, accruing fines totaling 99.1 million rupees.

In efforts to enforce road safety, the PHP took legal action against 962 vehicles for the unauthorized use of gas cylinders. The force also issued over 15,000 driving licenses, enhancing public convenience. In a humanitarian effort, the PHP successfully reunited 58 missing children with their families and removed 291 road encroachments to facilitate smoother traffic flow. Additional services included assistance to nearly 10,000 passengers and the provision of various police services to more than 6,000 citizens at police service centers.

The PHP’s crackdown on illegal activities netted 84 cases of unauthorized weapon usage. Operations against drug trafficking led to the seizure of 1,575 liters of alcohol and 10,225 grams of charas.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar praised the PHP for its exemplary performance in August and urged all teams to maintain high standards of vigilance and enforcement on the province’s highways. He underscored the importance of continued efforts in crime fighting and ensuring the safety and service of the citizens.
