The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) is set to see significant changes following the approval of the PHP Service Rules 2024, announced by Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar. These changes will include a large number of promotions and the opportunity for PHP officials to undergo training and serve on deputation with the traffic and motorways police.
According to Punjab Police, the new service rules are part of broader efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the PHP. In June 2024, the PHP checked 2.7 million individuals and 1.32 million vehicles on Punjab’s highways using the e-Police Post App, resulting in the arrest of 525 wanted criminals and the recovery of 171 stolen vehicles. The PHP also issued over 214,000 traffic violation tickets and took action against 86,500 overloaded vehicles as part of their road safety campaign. Additionally, 61 missing children were reunited with their families, and various police services were provided to 4,659 citizens at police service centers.
These actions reflect the PHP’s commitment to law enforcement on highways and their role in ensuring the safety and convenience of the public. With the new service rules in place, the PHP is poised to enhance their operations further, contributing to safer and more secure highways across Punjab.
