Lahore: The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has significantly ramped up its efforts to ensure road safety and reduce crime along the province’s highways. Under the direction of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, the PHP has implemented a series of measures to enhance the security and convenience of travelers and local residents.
According to Punjab Police, the PHP’s comprehensive weekly report reveals substantial progress in law enforcement and public service. Throughout the week, PHP personnel checked over 1 million individuals using the e-police post app, leading to the arrest of 204 proclaimed offenders and judicial absconders. Additionally, 521,534 vehicles were inspected, resulting in the recovery of 106 stolen vehicles and motorcycles.
The report also highlighted the issuance of 78,535 e-challans under a road safety campaign to enforce traffic laws more effectively. A total of 14,474 overloaded vehicles were fined as part of the axle load management initiative, accumulating fines totaling 33.2 million rupees. Enforcement actions were taken against 353 vehicles for the illegal use of gas cylinders.
The PHP’s community service efforts included the issuance of 5,054 driving licenses and the reunion of 17 missing children with their families. Measures were also taken to remove 51 temporary and permanent roadside encroachments to improve traffic flow. Furthermore, the PHP provided assistance and guidance to 3,284 passengers and offered various services to 2,069 citizens at police service centers.
In its ongoing fight against illegal activities, the PHP registered 22 cases related to illegal weapons possession and seized 508 liters of alcohol from drug dealers. Dr. Usman Anwar praised the PHP force for their dedication and effective performance in enhancing highway safety and public security.
