Lahore, The Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has been actively enhancing safety and law enforcement on highways across Punjab, following directives from Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar. This initiative reflects a broader commitment by provincial authorities to ensure the security and smooth flow of traffic, and uphold the rule of law on all major roads.
According to Punjab Police, the PHP’s performance report for May 2024 highlights significant achievements in maintaining highway safety and efficiency. Dr. Anwar praised the PHP teams for their diligence in executing their duties, which include protecting lives and property, preventing accidents, and assisting motorists.
Throughout the month, PHP personnel checked 3.14 million individuals and 1.60 million vehicles using the e-police post app. This extensive surveillance led to the recovery of 267 stolen vehicles and motorcycles, and the arrest of 529 wanted criminals and judicial fugitives. The PHP also issued 273,815 e-challans for traffic violations and fined 132,305 vehicles for axle load violations, collecting a total of 112 million rupees in fines.
Furthering their community service, PHP reunited 87 missing children with their families and facilitated 11,662 new driving licenses to enhance driver regulation and safety. The patrol also removed 651 temporary and permanent encroachments to improve traffic flow and provided assistance to 9,347 passengers in distress.
In their continued fight against illegal activities, PHP registered 93 cases related to the unauthorized use of weapons and seized considerable amounts of alcohol, charas, and opium from drug traffickers.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has commended the PHP for its robust performance and urged the teams to intensify field patrolling and law enforcement efforts. He emphasized the importance of PHP’s role in ensuring a safe and orderly environment on Punjab’s highways, crucial for the overall socio-economic stability of the province.
