Punjab Government Led by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi Implements Rigorous Anti-Smog Measures

Lahore, September 26, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, is taking proactive steps in the fight against smog. Stringent measures will be enforced, including the sealing or de-sealing of factories, in strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Provincial Minister of Industries, SM Tanveer, emphasized that no factory will be exempted, and none will be allowed to contribute to smog formation. It is incumbent upon industries to prevent environmental pollution, and any factories emitting harmful emissions will face unwavering action.

Provincial Minister Bilal Afzal clarified that factories temporarily closed due to smog concerns will only be considered for de-sealing once due processes have been diligently followed. A review committee will be established to scrutinize the de-sealing process. Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman unequivocally stated that the use of substandard fuel would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

An essential meeting pertaining to anti-smog efforts convened at the Civil Secretariat presided over by Provincial Minister of Industries and Commerce, SM Tanveer. Attendees included Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Provincial Minister Bilal Afzal, along with officials from the Environment Protection Department, including the Director-General. Notable industrial figures such as Patron-in-Chief of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Sheikhupura, Manzoor Malik, Mardan Ali, Amjad Khan, and others were also present.

The meeting focused on reviewing issues related to the closure and subsequent de-sealing of factories in the context of anti-smog measures.
