Punjab Government Initiates Identification of Minority Cemetery Lands

Lahore, In a significant move to address the cemetery needs of religious minorities, the Punjab Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs, Ramesh Singh Arora, has directed district commissioners to identify suitable land for minority cemeteries at the UC (Union Council) level. This directive aims to ensure that cemetery spaces are equitably allocated and not confined to specific areas.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the directive was issued during a crucial meeting attended by multiple stakeholders, including MPs and local government representatives. The discussions focused on the challenges faced by minority communities in accessing cemetery spaces, particularly in areas with large Christian populations. The meeting also addressed the need for fair land allocation within existing cemeteries managed by the Shahr Khamoshan Authority.

The initiative includes plans to build secure and accessible cemeteries, with immediate actions to commence the land identification process. Ramesh Singh Arora has also appointed a focal person to coordinate with MPs and address any issues that arise during the implementation of this policy. This effort underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring equal rights for all communities and addressing the specific needs of minority groups in Punjab.
