LAHORE: As monsoon rains continue to lash the region, the Punjab government has intensified its efforts to ensure the rapid drainage of rainwater from streets and roads across the province. More than 1,000 modern dewatering machines have been deployed in 41 districts under the supervision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, marking an unprecedented use of such machinery in the province.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the chief minister is maintaining direct contact with district administrations and personally monitoring the performance of government departments involved in the drainage operations. Authorities have reported that rainwater has been promptly cleared from various areas in the Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Sargodha divisions.

Officials, along with staff from district administrations, Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA), and municipal corporations, are actively participating in the operations across cities including Wazirabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Narowal, and Sahiwal. In Hafizabad, dewatering pumps have been employed to remove accumulated water from key areas such as Misri Khan, Sagar Road, College Road, the Post Office area, and Madranwala Chowk.

In Mandi Bahauddin, WASA teams have utilized modern machinery to ensure the timely drainage of rainwater. The government has also made arrangements to extend drainage operations, public safety measures, and assistance to rural areas alongside urban centers. Residents have expressed appreciation for the swift response, noting that rainwater was cleared within hours of heavy rainfall. This marks a significant improvement from the past when machinery and staff were not readily available following severe weather events.
