Lahore: An important review meeting of the Energy Department was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Energy Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar. The meeting was attended by Secretary Energy Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti, the Chief Executive Officer of Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power (Pvt.) Limited, and other relevant officials. During the meeting, participants were briefed on the ongoing solarisation initiatives, including the progress on the 20 MW Hudiara Drain Solar Pilot Project, the 15 MW Sheikhupura Drain Solarisation Project for Quaid-e-Azam Business Park, and the 9.3 MW Wagah Distributary Solarisation Project.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the meeting also reviewed the technical, administrative, and financial progress of these projects. Provincial Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar stated that the provincial government is expediting renewable energy projects in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The objective is to provide affordable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable energy. The minister directed authorities to accelerate work and ensure timely completion of all projects.

The Provincial Minister further instructed the department to plan for a phased expansion of renewable energy projects to a capacity of 200 MW. The goal is to strengthen alternative energy resources and promote green energy across Punjab. The meeting also included a briefing on the Gujjar Colony Biogas Plant, with ongoing negotiations for additional biogas plants in Lahore and Faisalabad.

The biogas projects aim to offer affordable and sustainable energy to green buses, industries, and economic zones, reducing fuel costs and environmental pollution. Provincial Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar emphasized the importance of green energy initiatives in achieving energy self-reliance and sustainable development.
