Lahore: In a recent meeting presided over by Secretary Industries and Food, Ehsan Bhutta, the Punjab Food Department announced a comprehensive campaign aimed at enhancing food safety awareness among workers across all districts. The gathering also addressed the current performance of related departments within the region.
According to Punjab Food Department, the discussion was led by DG Punjab Food Authority, Asim Javed, who provided an extensive briefing on various official matters. Participants were informed about the operational and technical workings of the Punjab Food Authority, highlighting the support and mechanisms in place for over 700,000 registered food business operators.
During the meeting, Secretary Food Punjab emphasized the necessity for swift action to educate the general market about laws related to the food industry. He relayed directives from the Chief Minister of Punjab, mandating a detailed report on milk quality to be submitted. The Secretary stressed the need for more effective monitoring of daily use food items, including milk.
The campaign, as described by the Secretary, will focus on all districts and aims to ensure worker safety in food handling and consumption. Moreover, the meeting underscored a commitment to maintaining transparency in official procedures. Steps such as the implementation of 100% e-procurement and a paperless policy within the Food Department were confirmed.
Additional Secretary Technical Noman Hafeez, Deputy Secretary Food Faisal Abbas, and other officials were present at the meeting, underscoring the collaborative effort to improve food safety standards across Punjab.
