Punjab Chief Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Polio Eradication Efforts

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has reiterated her commitment to eradicating polio from the province, emphasizing the vital role of frontline workers in this mission. In her message on World Polio Day, she acknowledged the dedication of these workers, labeling them as national heroes and urging community cooperation in the fight against polio.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Sharif highlighted that Punjab remains polio-free, attributing this status to the efforts of health teams and the cooperation of residents. She stressed the importance of vaccination, urging parents to ensure their children under five receive the polio drops during every campaign. The chief minister noted that no polio cases have been reported in Punjab this year.

In the ongoing anti-polio efforts, over 10 million children in high-risk districts have received vaccinations. The upcoming Sub-National Polio Campaign, scheduled for November 2 to 8, 2026, aims to continue these efforts in selected districts. Environmental testing is being conducted across the province to prevent the virus’s spread, with oversight from District Health Management Teams, WHO, UNICEF, and local administration.

Chief Minister Sharif emphasized that while progress has been made, continued public support is crucial to ensuring a polio-free future for Punjab.
