Punjab Braces for Torrential Monsoon Rains, Flood Warnings Issued

Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued a weather advisory alerting to torrential monsoon rains expected across the province from August 1st, with possible occasional gaps, raising concerns of potential flooding in multiple regions. The advisory emphasizes heightened risks in the northern and central parts, including major cities and rural areas.

According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the anticipated heavy rainfall is likely to affect areas from Murree, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, to Lahore, with particular vulnerability in local streams and rivers of Murree, Galliyat, and the Rawalpindi northeast region. The PDMA has outlined potential impacts such as flash flooding and urban waterlogging, urging residents in high-risk areas to take necessary precautions. Specific regions like Kalan, Mithian, and Khushab are expected to receive significant downpours leading to increased river flows and possible flash flood events.

Local authorities and emergency services have been instructed to ensure readiness for flood response and relief operations. The PDMA recommends that residents stay informed through local announcements, adhere to safety guidelines, and cooperate with emergency management efforts to mitigate the impacts of the severe weather conditions forecasted for early August.
