Punjab Approves Rs 137 Billion for Urban Development and Local Government Projects

Lahore: The Punjab Planning and Development Board has greenlit 24 development schemes totaling more than Rs 137 billion, focusing on urban upgrades and improved local governance. This decision was reached during the 12th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) for the fiscal year 2024-25, chaired by Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan.

According to Planning and Development Board – Punjab announcement issued on 02 August 2024, the approved projects encompass extensive rehabilitation and improvements across various zones in Lahore, including roads, street lights, sewerage, and drainage systems. The largest allocations include Rs 59 billion for infrastructure enhancements in multiple zones such as Nishtar-I and Allama Iqbal-II, and Rs 78 billion under the CM Lahore Development Program covering zones like Samanabad, Ravi, and Gulberg.

Additionally, the PDWP has approved an IT-based monitoring system for improved service delivery in all local governments of Punjab, budgeted at Rs 695.008 million. The meeting was attended by Secretary P and D Board Dr. Asif Tufail, Chief Economist Dr. Nasir Iqbal Malik, and other high-ranking officials and department heads, ensuring a collaborative approach to the developmental initiatives.
