Lahore, In a significant move to bolster road safety, IG National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Sultan Ali Khawaja visited the Central Police Office in Lahore, where he was welcomed by IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar. A key meeting was held to strengthen the partnership between the Punjab Police and the National Highways and Motorway Police.
According to Punjab Police, the meeting, co-chaired by IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and IG NHMP Sultan Ali Khawaja, focused on enhancing collaboration for better enforcement of road safety measures, particularly axle load management on highways. Key officials from both organizations, including Additional IGs and DIGs, participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, it was agreed to intensify joint efforts between the Punjab Highway Patrol and National Highways Police to ensure effective implementation of laws and prevent accidents caused by heavy load traffic. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between PHP, Motorway, and Traffic Police for more robust axle load management.
A working group will be formed to integrate the operations of Punjab Police and National Highways Police, aiming to share best practices and improve overall traffic management. IG Punjab highlighted the adoption of Motorways Police’s work culture and practices within the Punjab Police.
DIG PHP Dr. Athar Waheed briefed on the ongoing initiatives to curb overloading on highways. IG NHMP Sultan Ali Khawaja expressed confidence that this collaboration would enhance the enforcement of axle load management rules and improve the management of heavy load vehicles.
During his visit, IG NHMP Sultan Ali Khawaja was shown various departments of the Central Police Office and briefed on recent initiatives, including the martyred and Ghazi Walls, a newly constructed auditorium, and ongoing courses. The visit concluded with an exchange of souvenirs between the two IGs.
This initiative marks a step forward in ensuring safer highways in Punjab through enhanced cooperation between provincial and national law enforcement agencies.
