New Delhi, September 30, 2022 (PPI-OT):The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), a leading human rights body in India while calling the ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) ”unconstitutional”, demanded its revocation forthwith. PUCL general secretary V Suresh in a statement issued here, said that tactics like bans, crackdowns, and arrests of the leaders and activists of PFI seem to be a ploy to inflict the sense of fear into Muslims to intimidate them, alienate them and keep them mum. PUCL general secretary demanded immediate revocation of the ban and starting of a dialogue with the PFI.
The human rights body also demanded release of all the detained persons. It also demanded of the Indian government to stop arbitrary utilization of the power of arrest to target Muslims on grounds of membership or support of PFI and its affiliates. PUCL also demanded repeal of the unconstitutional Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and also the NIA Act.
