PTA Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Issuance of SIMs in Lahore

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office in Lahore has intensified its efforts against the illegal issuance of SIM cards, conducting a series of raids in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency’s Cyber Crime Circle. These operations have led to multiple arrests and the seizure of various devices associated with the illicit activities.

According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the raids targeted several locations across Lahore, including two Zong Franchises situated on Ferozepur Road and in Johar Town. The operations resulted in the recovery of seven Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, three mobile phones, fifty suspicious SIM cards, and a laptop, all confiscated by the FIA Cyber Crime Circle team as evidence.

The crackdown also led to the arrest of a key group member who was involved in obtaining unauthorized fingerprint scans. Four additional suspects, including the managers of the franchises, a Zong Business Development Officer, and a Distribution Services Officer, were taken into custody. The FIA has registered two First Information Reports (FIRs) and is further investigating the case.

This series of actions is part of the PTA’s ongoing commitment to eliminate the illegal issuance of SIM cards and safeguard telecommunications integrity in Pakistan.
