Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has completed a Quality of Service (QoS) survey to evaluate the performance of Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) across 18 cities in the provinces of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the third quarter of 2024. The survey aimed to assess key performance indicators such as mobile network coverage, voice services, and broadband speed.
According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the survey was conducted over a span of 63 days, covering approximately 2,400 kilometers per CMO. The assessment focused on main roads, service roads, and residential sectors, utilizing automated QoS monitoring tools to conduct more than 290,000 tests for mobile broadband performance and 41,700 voice and SMS samples. The evaluation was based on the requirements set forth in Next Generation Mobile Service licenses and QoS Regulations 2021.
The survey results indicated that advanced technologies, including LTE Carrier Aggregation and Voice over LTE, were the top performers. While the compliance with standards was deemed satisfactory overall, certain areas showed deficiencies in voice service key performance indicators. The PTA has instructed operators to implement corrective measures to address these shortcomings.
The complete results of the survey have been published on the PTA’s website, with the intention of improving services and encouraging healthy competition among operators.
