Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and TikTok hosted a Youth Safety Summit in Islamabad, aiming to advance online safety and digital literacy among young internet users in Pakistan. The event brought together stakeholders from government, education, and child protection sectors to explore strategies for protecting the nation’s youth online.
According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the summit underscored a collaborative effort to improve digital safety and literacy. The Minister for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, stressed the significance of joint efforts to empower youth with the necessary skills for safe internet navigation, highlighting its role in fostering a digitally inclusive society.
Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman, reiterated the authority’s commitment to a secure online environment, indicating that the summit represents a pivotal step towards achieving a safe digital ecosystem for young users in Pakistan. TikTok’s representative, Emir Gelen, outlined the platform’s initiatives, such as Family Pairing and the Youth Safety Portal, to enhance online safety.
The summit concluded with the announcement of winners for the #DigitalHifazat Contest, along with plans to broaden the initiative nationwide, furthering the efforts to ensure safer online interactions across the country.
