PTA and FIA Collaborate to Crack Down on Illegal SIM Issuance in Lahore

Islamabad, In a significant move against illegal telecom activities, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) Zonal Office in Lahore, in partnership with the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, conducted a successful raid on a mobile phone company’s franchisee in the Chung area of Lahore. The operation was aimed at curbing the unauthorized issuance of SIM cards, a practice that poses security risks and violates telecommunications regulations.

According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the joint raid revealed the franchisee’s involvement in the illicit distribution of SIM cards. The enforcement teams discovered 1058 active SIM cards and seized 12 Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, which were being used to facilitate the unauthorized activity. The operation also led to the apprehension of one individual found on the premises, who is now under investigation by the FIA. An FIR has been lodged, marking a significant step in the ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal telecom practices.

This action is part of PTA’s broader strategy to ensure compliance with telecommunications laws and safeguard the integrity of Pakistan’s digital and telecommunications landscape. By addressing the illegal issuance of SIM cards, the PTA demonstrates its commitment to maintaining a secure and regulated environment for telecom operations in the country.
