Islamabad, October 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf and Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani have said that providing all basic facilities to the visually impaired people is the top priority of the incumbent government. They said that if visually impaired people were provided equal opportunities as they can work better than the common people. They expressed these views on the occasion of White Cane Safety day, which is being commemorated on 15th October every year under the umbrella of United Nations.
On this occasion, the Speaker said that the visually impaired people have immense potential and when they are provided equal opportunities of education and employment, they can play their respective role in the progress of the country like an ordinary citizen. ۔ “The white cane is a symbol which depicts that visually impaired persons do not need anyone’s pity and this deprivation cannot stop them from moving forward,” he remarked.
While commending the efforts of visually impaired people in the society, the Speaker said that these people were playing their role in every sector of the country. He said that the blind girl Saima Saleem is representing Pakistan in the United Nations which is a testament to the fact that if visually impaired people were given equal opportunities to work, they could boost the image of the country.
The Speaker said that for the first time in the history of the country, the National Assembly had enacted legislation for differently abled persons so that their problems could be resolved. He said that the present government was taking steps to provide equal education and employment opportunities to differently abled people.
The Speaker said that for the first time in the history of the country, the National Assembly has taken important initiatives to provide facilities exclusively to the differently abled persons. He said that the Constitution of Pakistan has been formulated in Braille so that it can be made accessible to the visually impaired people. In addition, the National Assembly’s website had been made accessible to let visually impaired get full benefit of it.
The Speaker said that today is the day to reiterate the commitment that the incumbent government would do its utmost to help the visually impaired and play our role in making them productive citizens of the country. He urged the people to help them instead of taking pity on them so that they could play their active role in progress and prosperity of the country.
On this occasion, Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani said that White Cane Day reminds us to provide all possible facilities to the visually impaired persons. He said that due to modern technology, blind people are also playing their role in the development of the country along with other citizens. He vowed to do his utmost to provide equal education and employment opportunities to the visually impaired individuals.
