Provision of all the basic necessities to the visually impaired persons is the top priority of the incumbent government: Speaker and Deputy Speaker National Assembly

Islamabad, December 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf and Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani have said that differently abled persons have immense potential when they are provided equal opportunities of employment and education, they play positive role in the progress of the country.

They said that provision of inclusive opportunity to all sectors of the society is the chief priority of the incumbent government. They expressed these views in their separate messages on the occasion of International day of Persons with Disabilities, which is commemorated on 3rd December every year under the flag of United Nations.

On the occasion, the Speaker said that differently abled people are proving themselves in all fields of life. He said that Saima Saleem who got her sixth position in Central Superior Services exam (CSS) is currently serving as a permanent representative of Pakistan in the United Nations in Geneva, who fought the case of Kashmir on behalf of Pakistan in the UN General Assembly session last year. He stressed upon the need to utilize the skills of differently abled people to play a positive role in the development of the country.

The Speaker said that the incumbent Parliament is taking all possible measures to resolve the challenges faced by the differently abled persons. In this regard, the proper legislation has been enacted first time in the history of Parliament, to address the challenges faced by them in different walks of life.

He said that First time in the history, the Parliament building was made accessible for differently abled people. In this regard, the constitution of Pakistan was also converted to brail system to make it accessible for visually impaired people.

Similarly, the website of the National Assembly has been made accessible to visually impaired and speech impaired persons. He said that ramps have been installed on stairs to make it easy for physically handicapped people to move freely. He emphasized on the need to ensure strict implementation of the quota reserved for the physically challenged in government jobs. The Speaker said that it is our responsibility to treat differently abled people with love and affection, without showing any pity upon them. “They need our support not pity,” he said.

On this occasion, Deputy Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani said that differently abled people are rendering their services in every field of life and are playing a vital role in the construction and development of the country. He emphasized upon providing equal employment opportunities to the disabled persons. He said that if they are provided equal opportunities for employment and education, they can prove to be useful citizens of the country.
