Protests in Tamil Nadu against use of UAPA

Chennai, October 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):Protesting the high-handed approach of the Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata government for using Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) for crushing voices of dissent and minorities’ democratic rights, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi organised a protest demonstration at Madurai and Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The protesters said that many tribals, Muslims, Dalits, , trade unionist, intellectuals, political activist lawyers, social activists who have not been in the good books of the Narendra Modi led government have been implicated, imprisoned and tortured and framed under the UAPA.

In Chennai Prof. M.H. Jawahirullah, MLA and President of the party led the agitation. K. Balakrishnan, State Secretary, CPM, R. Muttarasan, State Secretary CPI, S.S. Balaji, MLA, Deputy General Secretary, Viduthalai Siruthaigal Katchi, T. Velmurugan, MLA, President, Tamilaga Vazhurimai Katchi and Prof. Suba. Veerapandian spoke.

At Madurai, the agitation was led by P. Abdul Samad, MLA, General Secretary of the party led the agitation. Manickam Tagore, MP of Congress, Su. Venkatesan, MP of CPM, K. Subbarayan, MP of CPI, M. Poominathan, MLA of MDMK, Kaniamuthan of VCK and Henry Tiphagne of People’s Watch also spoke on the occasion.
