Protests Erupt in Srinagar Over Civilian Deaths in Indian Army Custody

Karachi, Political parties in Srinagar and other parts of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir united in protest on Saturday, demanding a thorough investigation into the deaths of three civilians reportedly in Indian army custody. The protests, which spread across various areas, underscored a call for justice and accountability.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the protests were marked by significant participation from different political groups. The Apni Party, led by Ashraf Mir, organized a demonstration at their headquarters in the Church Lane area. Mir, addressing reporters, emphasized the need for a fair and thorough investigation into the civilians’ deaths. The protestors attempted to march out of their office but were halted by the police.

Similarly, the National Conference (NC) held a protest echoing the same sentiments. NC workers raised slogans against the loss of innocent lives and called for an end to such incidents. They faced police intervention when attempting to march from their party office. Ali Mohammad Sagar, the party’s general secretary, stressed the necessity of an inquiry, drawing parallels with the government’s response to the killing of army personnel.

Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, a senior leader of the CPI-M, also voiced his demand for a swift and impartial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the three individuals.

The unified stance of various political parties in the region highlights a growing concern over the treatment of civilians in conflict areas and calls for greater transparency and accountability in such incidents.
