Mumbai: Dharavi witnessed significant unrest as hundreds of residents took to the streets to oppose the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) decision to demolish the Mehboob-e-Subhani mosque. The move by BMC prompted a massive public response, with protesters gathering to block the demolition team.
According to Kashmir Media Service, to manage the situation and ensure public safety, a substantial police force was deployed around the site and the nearby areas. Officials from BMC’s G-North ward arrived early in the morning with intentions to clear the mosque located on 90 Feet Road, but were met with immediate resistance from the local community who prevented them from accessing the mosque.
The confrontation escalated as hundreds of protesters also staged a sit-in outside the Dharavi police station, vocally criticizing the civic body’s decision. Despite the tensions, authorities reported that the situation was under control. Ongoing discussions involving mosque representatives, BMC officials, and local police are trying to mediate a resolution to the conflict.
