Protest rally in Muzaffarabad against Sopore massacre of 1993 

Muzaffarabad, January 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):A protest rally was held in Muzaffarabad against the massacre of innocent Kashmiris and the burning of property worth billions of rupees by Indian troops in Sopore town of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in 1993.

Over 60 civilians were martyred and more than 350 shops and other structures including residential houses were gutted on January 06 in 1993 after Indian soldiers set the Sopore town ablaze. The victim families are still awaiting justice while the perpetrators of this heinous crime are roaming free.

The protest rally organized by International Forum for Justice Human Right JK was taken out from Degree College Eidgah to Upper Adda Lal Chowk. I was led by the party Vice Chairman, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman, Uzair Ahmad Ghazali, PPP leader, Showkat Javed Mir, Usman Ali Hashim, Dr Manzoor, social activist, Azmat Hayat Kashmiri and students leader, Irshad Ahmad Khan. A large number of civil society members and students also attended the rally.

The participants of the rally chanted slogans against India and in favour of Kashmiris’ freedom from Indian occupation. They were also holding placards and banners with anti-Indi and pro-freedom slogans.

The IFJHRJK Chairman, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, in a telephonic address from Srinagar to the participants of the rally said his organization has taken every legal route to provide justice to the families of the victims of Sopore massacre but it is very unfortunate that they have not received justice so far. He said that the international community should end its criminal silence regarding the Indian atrocities on innocent Kashmiris. Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Uzair Ahmad Ghazali and Shaukat Javed Mir also addressed the rally and said that the international community must come forward to provide justice to the oppressed people of IIOJK.
